Description:
This ten-acre natural riparian wetland is rich in native habitat. The Jo Smith Nature Trail begins at Arcade Creek Park, the eastern terminus connecting to the American River College trail, to the west. The trail runs along the south side of Arcade Creek Park and in the Verde Cruz Creek floodplain. Newly installed interpretive exhibits highlight the habitat of the area as well as providing information about Arcade Creek Watershed and volunteer information and area wetland activities.

PLEASE NOTE:  Due to construction, there are two scheduled closings of the Jo Smith Trail.

  • The first is at the footbridge in the park.  This area will be fenced off and closed for construction from 12-18 months depending upon weather conditions.  You can access the trail from the Garfield side of the road. The trail will be closed to pedestrian traffic at the footbridge beginning in July.
  • The pipe at the end of the trail will be closed off to pedestrian access in August by the Sacramento Sewer District.  You will not be able to access American River College campus property.  At this time, no plans have been made to open that area of the trail although it is hoped that in future years a bridge can be constructed and access again open to the ARC
